The Netherlands Embassy in Jakarta offers Indonesian organisations small contributions to activities in the sports sector. The Netherlands Sports & Development Programme is applicable to Indonesia as of 2008 with the objective of strengthening the sports infrastructure of Indonesia and to contribute to the development of Indonesia by means of sports. The programme is aimed at supporting initial and temporary projects for the promotion of the sports in developing countries that have a duration of maximum three years. The focus is on youth, girls and women, the promotion of understanding and cooperation between different groups in society, and capacity building by involving youth in the organisation of the events.

Requests for contributions need to comply with the following conditions:

• The Embassy will fund up to a maximum of 75% of the project costs, while the projects costs should be up to a maximum of  € 25.000,- per year; 
• A significant contribution from the executing organisation itself is required, either financially or in kind;
• The project should be directed towards training and education of people working in the sports sector or more in general towards strengthening the sports infrastructure in Indonesia;
• Applications should in principle be made by Indonesian organizations.

So far, from the Sports & Development Fund a number of activities have been financed, such as the National Competition of Special Olympics Indonesia (promoting sports for athletes with a mental handicap), a soccer event on Ambon, and a special ‘Play Day’ for 400 children of state panti, organised by Right to Play and DepSos.
